As any veteran knows, the return to civilian life can be difficult. When it came to my career, I didn’t even know where to start after I left the Army in 2009.
Looking back now, I’m so happy I found my way to Divisions Maintenance Group.
I started with DMG in 2017 as an Account Executive in Training. I worked hard, leaning on the skills I gained in the military, and I started moving up the ranks. I went from Account Executive to Senior Business Development Executive to my current role, Senior Sales Executive.
The skills I learned in the military are beneficial in almost every arena, but I found them especially helpful at DMG. Leadership, work ethic, perseverance and problem-solving are taught in the Army, and each of those skills has transferred well into my post-military career.
I’m a big believer in the adage, “You get out what you put in,” and at DMG, that mentality pays off. I’ve landed more than a dozen new accounts for the company, and it’s so satisfying to see the immediate impact of my work on the bottom line.
After the Army, it took me a while to find the right career path. I tried going back to school. I ran my own dog-training business. I was a partner in a security agency, a bouncer at a bar and a delivery driver for a beer distributor – but none of it felt quite right. I needed something that was the right fit for me and my family.
Then, I got a call from a DMG recruiter. And the second I walked through the door, I felt instantly at home.
DMG is growing like crazy, but it still has that small-company feel. As a father, I was blown away by how much DMG does for employees and their families. We have family photo days, ping pong tables, dart boards and video game tournaments. I’ve had lunch with the CEO on multiple occasions just because I was sitting in the breakroom when he walked in. Compared to any other job I’ve had, the culture at DMG is lightyears ahead.
This company supports veterans and understands the sacrifices they make.
When I first got out of the Army, I didn’t know what to expect from my post-military career. At DMG, I found everything I needed. I enjoy what I do, the benefits are top-notch and, most importantly, I know my work matters.
