Teresa Layne gathered her siblings for Family Photo Day at DMG. She has two brothers and two sisters, and it often feels impossible to pin down everyone at the same time.
So when Layne saw the chance to get professional family photos through work — for free? She had to take it.
Leonard Abell brought his wife and three daughters. With a new baby girl on the way, this was their last family photo as a crew of five.
Lindsey Aranyos had her husband and three kids, including the family’s 8-month-old baby. Aranyos used the photos to make Christmas cards and got canvas prints as gifts for grandparents.
“They’re beautiful,” she said of the folder of images she got from DMG. “And they’re extra special because they’re the first ones with our new baby.”
When it comes to employee extras, DMG focuses on perks that add value to employees’ lives, said Employee Engagement Manager Jalan Nored. A lot of companies do professional headshots for their employees, for example, but Family Photo Day takes it one step further and lets employees know DMG cares for their families, too.
As a professional photographer, Nored loves that he can shoot and edit the photos himself rather than hiring someone from outside the company. This year, he did shoots for about 30 families, spread out across three weekends.
“It’s not posing for a random stranger,” he said. “It’s, ‘Hey, this is Jalan. You know him.’ It’s a more personal connection.”
Within a few days of the shoot, each employee gets a folder full of high-quality, high-res images they can use however they like.
For Layne, who posed with her siblings, the photos are like happy memories from a family reunion.
“It was so nice for us to all get together and just play around and catch up, because we don’t really get to do that that much,” she said. “What more could you ask for? It’s such a nice gift.”
For Abell, his family photos from DMG are like a record of his growing family. He’s participated in the perk three times, and it seems like each time there’s a new baby to hold.
“It honestly just makes me feel wanted at DMG,” he said. “It makes me feel like they’re not just trying to reward me for the work I do for them but actually give me a perk that brings me joy.”
