DMG reveals new Foundry mural

As crews wrap up construction on the new HQ at The Foundry, DMG employees are getting ready to leave a permanent mark of their own on the building: a 68-foot by 18-foot mural.

DMG is partnering with ArtWorks Cincinnati to paint the large mural on the fourth floor of DMG’s new space. The bulk of the painting will be done by three professional artists and eight youth apprentices, but DMG employees are volunteering to help paint the mural on three different days in April and May.

“Art is such a huge part of the downtown landscape, and murals in particular,” said DMG Employee Engagement Manager Jalan Nored. “We wanted to get involved in that right away, and this partnership with ArtWorks — particularly since it benefits youth apprentices — was the perfect fit.”

The mural features a man sitting on a truck in Northern Kentucky, looking across the river toward the Cincinnati skyline. There are bourbon barrels in the back of the truck — a nod to DMG’s Kentucky roots — and a red-winged blackbird in the sky. The red-winged blackbird is a large Kentucky bird that also lives in Ohio, signifying DMG’s commitment to both sides of the river.

The bourbon barrels are etched with 1999, DMG’s founding year.

“We have a nearly 25-year history in Newport, Kentucky,” Nored said. “Our CEO, Gary Mitchell, is from Kentucky. We want the mural design to pay tribute to that rich history while also depicting moving ahead, moving forward.”
